Background and History: |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The mission of the University Student Alumni Board (USAB), student affiliate of the UB Alumni Association, is to encourage lifelong participation in the University at Buffalo by involving students in traditional programs, spirit activities, and events which promote UB pride. Through this scholarship program, established in 1985, USAB seeks to recognize full-time undergraduate and graduate students whose leadership efforts, through extracurricular and volunteer activities, have similarly helped to promote student involvement and enhance the student experience at UB. The awards were renamed in 1991 after Dr. J. Scott Fleming, who served as executive director of the Office of Alumni Relations and who exemplified the spirit of involving students, whom he called, "alumni-in-residence." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Application Process: |

| Self-nominations are required. No minimum G.P.A. is required. Applications must be complete and meet all the requirements set by USAB. Past or present USAB members are not eligible for the award. The $500 awards will be given to students who demonstrate a commitment, through their extracurricular and volunteer activities, to promoting student involvement and enhancing the student experience at UB. A distinguished panel of judges consisting of University Officials and UB Alumni will determine the finalists, who will go on for personal interviews conducted by the USAB Executive Board. The finalists and winners will be recognized at a ceremony in the Spring semester. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
