Our History

In the Spring of 1983, students from various organizations at the University at Buffalo were asked to meet and discuss the inception of a Student Alumni Association (SAA). A total of 104 students were asked to attend a meeting with President Steven Sample (UB President 1982-1991), University faculty, and representatives from the Alumni Association. After holding two meetings, on Jan. 14, 1983 and Feb. 24, 1983, it was decided that a Student Alumni Association would be formed. The SAA would later change its name to the University Student Alumni Board (USAB), during the 1986-87 school year.

Out of the 104 students who were asked to attend the meetings, 28 were appointed as the first SAA Board of Directors. The first official meeting was held on April 11th, 1983. It was at this meeting that the Board of Directors elected their first Executive Board. In its first year of existence the SAA consisted of a 30 member Executive Board and Board of Directors, and 120 general members. Within its first few years, USAB formed programs, such as Oozfest, Survival Kits, and a Scholarship Program, that still exist today.

The original goal of this organization was to involve more students in campus organizations, promote school spirit, and to encourage life long involvement at the University and in the UB Alumni Association. This continues to be the goal of USAB today. USAB members are involved, committed, and full of Blue and White spirit!
