@UB: January 2008

As we celebrate the New Year and all of its promise, and make resolutions to improve our lives or the lives of others, consider the many ways you can become involved in the life of your alma mater.  This past year, more than 10,000 alumni made UB a part of their lives – by attending events, helping recruit students, offering career advice, assisting with fundraising, and bringing alumni together.

In 2008, UB’s Office of Alumni Relations has many exciting events and programs planned, and will continue to facilitate connections through established local events such as Real Life 101 and Dinner for 12 Strangers, as well as national volunteer programs such as Meet-a-Mentor and Alumni Ambassadors. In addition, our chapters around the country are always looking for leadership and support, and if you are interested in bringing your classmates together for a reunion, we’re here to help you. We thank all of the alumni whose volunteer efforts have made UB a better university and invite others to make a resolution for 2008 – to reconnect with and volunteer for your university.

Sincerely,

Graham G. Stewart
Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations

HEARD ON CAMPUS

 “(It) is really recognition of the wonderful faculty and staff and students who we have here. They are UB. They are as committed as I am to building a great partnership between our university and our community, a partnership that can help produce an era of economic recovery in Western New York and contribute, therefore, to a positive way to a bright future for all our children.”

IN MY OPINION

For more than 20 years, UB’s Distinguished Speaker Series has brought a wealth of innovators, artists, scientists, and heads of state to take part in what is one of the hottest tickets in town.  Past US president Jimmy Carter, award-winning actor Sidney Poitier, CBS Nightly News anchor Katie Couric, comedian Bill Cosby and author Toni Morrison are just a few of the speakers who have graced the stages of Alumni Arena and the Center for the Arts here at UB.  Which speaker has had the most impact on you and why?
