@UB: August 2007

Are you a UB Believer?
Last week we launched UB Believers, an effort that complements the ambitious goals laid out in the UB 2020 strategic plan:  to grow the university by 40 percent over the next 13 years, adding 10,000 students and nearly 1,500 faculty and staff.

Studies show that a strong university improves the economy and quality of life in the region in which it resides. A larger, stronger UB will power a knowledge-based economy, educate a skilled workforce, foster innovation, and tackle complex issues like health care and the environment. UB’s cultural, educational and recreational offerings, such as arts and sports, will enliven the region like never before.  And UB’s economic impact will increase significantly from $1.5 billion today to $2.6 billion in 2020.

How can you help?   The success of the UB Believers campaign depends on all of us working together, as alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of UB.  I invite you to become a UB Believer, and show elected officials that you support our initiatives.  It takes only a minute to sign up and every voice counts.

HEARD ON CAMPUS

“Every great American city or region has a great hometown university.  The University at Buffalo is ours and it has plans to grow by 40 percent between now and the year 2020.”

--UB President John B. Simpson at the Aug. 7 news conference launching UB Believers.

IN MY OPINION

Do you believe that the Buffalo Niagara region can flourish? Do you believe that if we all work together we can raise the quality of life in this community?

We believe all UB alumni and friends can help ensure the success of our university and the Buffalo Niagara region no matter where they live.  The two keys to building that success are the continued growth of the University at Buffalo and the active involvement of alumni and friends like you.

UB Believers has been formed to ensure that UB receives the support it needs from the government in order to continue its positive impact on Western New York, New York State and the world beyond.  Please tell us why you believe in UB, and give us your feedback on the university's ambitious plans to grow.
