Alumni Association Achievement AwardsThe UB Alumni Association awards recognize individuals who bring distinction to themselves and to UB through their outstanding professional and personal achievement, loyal service to UB, and exemplary service to their communities. The awards are presented each spring at the UB Alumni Association’s annual Alumni Association Achievement Awards Dinner. The deadline to submit nominations occurs in early fall; however, they may be sent in at anytime during the year. The 2009 Alumni Association Achievement Awards will be held Friday, April 3rd at the Adam's Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo. The Capen Award recognizes notable and meritorious contributions from alumni to the university and its family, such as contributions influencing the growth and improvement of UB and stimulating others to give their active interest and material support to the university. It is one of the association’s most prestigious awards. Walter P. Cooke Award
Given to non-alumni, the Cooke Award recognizes notable and meritorious contributions to the university and its family, such as contributions influencing the growth and improvement of the university and stimulating others to give their active interest and material support to UB. George W. Thorn Award
The Thorn Award is given to University at Buffalo graduates under 40 in recognition of their outstanding national or international contributions to their career field or academic area. Clifford C. Furnas Memorial Award
It was the intent of the late Mrs. Furnas that this award be presented annually to a graduate of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, or a graduate in one of the natural sciences or mathematics disciplines within the College of Arts and Sciences, who has distinguished himself/herself in a field of science, thereby bringing honor to the university. Dr. Richard T. Sarkin Award For Excellence In Teaching
The Sarkin Award is named in honor of the late Richard T. Sarkin, M.D., Ed. M. ’98, an accomplished pediatrician renowned for his teaching expertise, his efforts to improve the teaching skills of faculty and medical residents, as well as on ways to improve how physicians communicate with patients. The award acknowledges outstanding and significant achievements by UB alumni who have earned distinction as educators at accredited institutions of higher education. Distinguished Alumni Awards
These awards are given in recognition of exceptional career accomplishments, community or university service, or research and scholarly activity. A special International Distinguished Alumni Award will be inaugurated in 2005. International Distinguished Alumni Awards
This award is given to alumni who live outside the United States in recognition of exceptional career accomplishments, community or university service, or research and scholarly activity. It represents achievement in a variety of areas – the arts, sciences, professions and community service. Community Leadership Medal
The Community Leadership Medal is presented in recognition of and in appreciation of outstanding accomplishments in making our university community a better place to live and work. Any and all persons, whether UB alumni or not, who have made either outstanding contributions to the community over an extended period of time, or a single truly remarkable contribution are eligible. Dr. Philip B. Wels Award
The Dr. Philip B. Wels Award is given to individuals and groups that have contributed to and advanced the University at Buffalo for a specific purpose, or served UB in a voluntary capacity for a significant period of time. The recipient's achievements have greatly enhanced the quality of life of the entire UB community. Volunteer Service Medal
The Volunteer Service Medal is presented to an individual who has made a significant impact through their contribution of service to one or more units within the University at Buffalo. |
